I Support Operation Underground Railroad

UPDATE: This fundraiser is now over. However, you can still donate to O.U.R at any time at ourrescue.org. Likewise, you can now find the I Spy Racial Awareness expedition HERE.

For the past couple of years I have followed the successes and reports of O.U.R. (Operation Underground Railroad) and the Founder/CEO, Tim Ballard.

O.U.R. is devoted to rescuing people, especially children, from human trafficking around the world. The statistics are horrifying and the stories are enough to break your heart. But the work they do is nothing short of miraculous. So, to support them, I will be doing monthly fundraisers with 100% of the fundraiser proceeds going to O.U.R.

What Is The O.U.R.?

This is their YouTube explanation.

I believe this is an organization worth supporting. This is light in darkness.

June’s Fundraiser: I Spy Racial Awareness

In the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness we can no longer pretend to be “color blind.” So I created an activity that will not only allow you to talk about race and different people in your home, but will push you and your children to reflect together on how diverse your regular interactions with the world are. Do you only encounter people that fit in a certain group? Or is your circle full of different colors, backgrounds, abilities, self-expressions and so on?

It’s easy enough for a child to understand, but I believe also powerful enough to challenge adults to realize how narrow or broad of a world they live in. I know I was certainly surprised when I actually sat down and began talking about it with my son! The activity is called “I Spy Racial Awareness.”

I Spy Racial Awareness

18 Pages of printable activities to start conversations and evaluate questions such as, "What if everyone in your family looked exactly like you?" and "Imagine that your friends are like the colors of the rainbow. What if every single friend was red?" and "What if most of the time you read a book and saw a picture of someone like you in it as the good guy, would that make you feel good?" and MORE! Plus it's all very hands-on fun!

$3.00

How it Works:

  1. Click “Pay with PayPal” on the order form below. I will receive a notification that you have selected this product, which money is set to be set aside for donations.
  2. You will receive an email the same day from me by 8:00pm MST, sending you the file with all of the included activity pages and as big of a Thank You as I can possibly muster over email.
  3. Check in on my Instagram and/or Facebook for weekly updates to see how much has been raised with screenshots from my notifications. I promise to always be honest with your money.
  4. Tune in LIVE on Instagram to see me hit “Submit” on these donations that will literally save childrens’ lives.

If You Would Like To Donate More Than $5

  1. Adjust the “Amount” under the price of payment. Just click the box surrounding the 1, and type in the number of whatever amount of $5 bills you’d like to send on to O.U.R. (2= $10, 3=$15, 4=$20, etc..)
  2. For every $5 you donate, you will have the option of also receiving 1 additional Expedition of equal or lesser value (anything less than $5 on the site). *Full Russia/China bundles are excluded.
  3. By 8:00pm MST on the day of your donation, I will email you the files for the I Spy Racial Awareness, along with instructions for how to request which additional expeditions you would like.

What’s Included:

Important Note about the “I Spy” List: skin colors are not on that list. There are too many tones to just say “brown skin, black skin or white skin”. That is why the characters are vital. Even they don’t do justice to the variety of skin tones that exist, but hopefully you can see the value of showing that many types of brown/black/white are there as you discuss it with your children.

  • I Spy … In My Family
    • Take a look through family pictures and see what everyone in your family looks like and where they have lived!
    • A map to mark where in the world your parents and grandparents have lived
    • Sheets to create a family tree and color in each person of your family, as well as a glue-on flap that shows which continent each family member was raised on
    • Bodies of different colors that can be used to glue on for each person on the family tree before coloring hair and clothes.
  • I Spy … In My Friends
    • Take a look through pictures of your friends and talk about all the ways people being different makes a group more beautiful
    • Many different colored bodies with different hair *I’m trying to learn to draw a wheelchair that doesn’t look awful, so please reach out to me if you want a wheelchair and I will get you a renewed sheet with a wheelchair option too as soon as I have a minute to figure it out!*
  • I Spy … In My Book
    • Time to break out your favorite books and see how diverse your shelves are! Can you find all different kinds of characters in your books, or is there anything that is the same in all of them (*ahem skin color ahem*). If they’re all the same, maybe you can make a goal to rent a book from the library that represents a type of person that isn’t on your shelves!
    • Again, you can use the body characters for comparing skin color to the characters in your books.

Hints and ideas for conversations and activities will be included as well. And don’t forget that we would LOVE to see how you use the activity! Just tag me on Instagram! @colorme_cc

Enjoy!
